TRIACs

Alternating current triodes

TRIACs or triodes for alternating current are three-terminal semiconductor devices (A2, A1, Gate) that conduct current in both directions. They are suited for AC switching applications, they are triggered into conduction by applying either a positive or negative bias current to the gate and are turned off once the current through the device falls below the holding current level.
